Confusion with Webmin Usernames

Following a VPS rebuild and re-install of Virtualmin Pro, I have logged into Virtualmin for the first time using a sudoer account

When viewing the list of Webmin Users, the only entry showing is "root"

Since I didn't supply my machine's root user credentials to Webmin, why does "root" exist?
Why is the account name not "Sudoer"?

Following creation of my Primary domain, owned by "Owner", I now see 2 Webmin Users: "root" and "Owner"

Howdy -- yeah the root user exists by default in Webmin. You're also able to log in as any other user with sudo privs. Webmin doesn't have your login credentials though, it authenticates the users against PAM and/or the /etc/passwd file.

So if root doesn't have a password set it won't be able to login.

It sounds like everything you're seeing there is normal there, but let us know if you're experiencing a problem of some sort.

thanks Eric, that stopped my (mental) Security alarms blaring :)

Does that mean that the new "Owner" account created (by Virtualmin) when I added my Primary Domain also has sudo privs?

No, the domain owner account won't get sudo privileges.

thanks Jamie this ticket can be marked solved now (I don't know how to do that)
