Howdy -- what is the email address you are trying to test?

Also, if you look in Edit Virtual Server -> Enabled Features, is the "Mail for Domain" feature enabled?

Sorry to trouble you I think I found the problem myself. Reading through a Digital Ocean support thread I added another "A" record named mail (see attached screenshot). Mail address in question is: "brianjones@travel-mizer.com" Mail now works but I am not sure if my DNS is set up correctly. Thanks

It looks like you're using a third party for hosting your DNS there.

What you may want to try is to get a DNS report from the folks over at intodns.com. You can browse there and enter your domain name, and it will let you know if it detects any oddities.

One thing I do see is that you have Gmail setup as the MX record.

That's perfectly fine -- but that means you shouldn't need an 'A' record like you just added... MailTester shouldn't be trying to send any email to your server, as email should only be going to Gmail, if I understand what I'm seeing correctly.

Please see report from intodns.com. Should I keep the Gmail MX records or delete them? Strange thing is mail started arriving after I added the extra "A" record.

Thanks

Well, that all depends on your setup there -- but if you're using Gmail you'd probably wish to keep those.

The intodns report looks good, and doesn't show any problems.

But you indicated that things aren't working as you'd hope.

Are you still having problems receiving email?

If so, where should email be going? Should it be sent to Gmail, or are you hoping to see that at your server?

Hi, Thanks for reply.

Before I was unable to receive a confirmation email from Gravatar.com but that has now arrived without error. Provided I can recieve mail from a gmail source I am happy with that. I was unaware that adding those MX records would direct mail to (I presume Google email servers) Google. Out of curiosity what is the advantage of that? Sorry about the lack of IT knowledge I really appreciate your help.

Thanks

Someone would do a setup like what you have there, if they had accounts at Gmail setup to receive email at their domain.

Some folks wish to have Gmail handle all their email. Gmail has a nice interface, and provides quite a bit of space for free.

If you want Gmail handling all your email, your setup is perfect.

If you'd rather all email come into your Virtualmin server, you would want to setup the MX records to point to your Virtualmin server, rather than Gmail.

Thank you for your help Sir!
