Wordpress Multisite

Hello I want to set up another WordPress website using Virtualmin. I have WordPress set up in /home/USERNAME/public_html. It is working great thanks to your help.

Should I just use the steps shown by WordPress.org?

  • 1 Step 0: Before You Begin
  • 2 Step 1: Prepare Your WordPress
  • 3 Step 2: Allow Multisite
  • 4 Step 3: Installing a Network
  • 5 Step 4: Enabling the Network
  • 6 Step 5: Network Admin Settings
  • 7 Step 6: Administration

Or is there a better way?

Thanks for all your help

Eddie

Hello I want to set up multiple WordPress sites. Which method should I use? Should I just set up a seperate virtual server or should I use the multisite method described by WordPress.org. As of WordPress 3.0, you have the ability to create a network of sites by using the multisite feature.

Thanks Merry Christmas

No, not yet. I've gotten it to work in the past, but it's been awhile. At the moment, I'm just using one site. If I remember how I will get back with you.

i have been using WP-multisite for a couple of years now with virtualmin and it works great.

all i did was set up all the sites as an "alias"? site of the main one. and be sure to use "WordPress MU Domain Mapping" plugin.

Hi,

I didn't pull that off,, virtualmin creates new, separate user, directory, system file permisions and who knows what else just to 'isolate' sites from each other ,, so if for example one site is brute forsed and exploited keep other sites secured! while in the other hand wordpress multisite uses one 'directory' to host all the sites, weather they are mapped to new domains or have theme in the form of domain.com/site1, domain.com/site2 or subdomain type..

I guess that one would be able to fiddle and 'map' directories from main domain into child sites via symbolic link, but then again what about great "SymLinksIfOwnerMatch" directive in sites conf files??

cheers

Here is a step by Step Guide for Wordpress MultiSite with SUB DOMAINS for all new sites

  1. Install wordpress
  2. Enable Multsite in Config.php
  3. Login to Wordpress > Go To TOOLS > Network
  4. select Subdomains and then your htacess with new codes

  5. Login into Virtualmin > Select the domain of wordpress

  6. Go to Server Configurations > Website Options > look for the “Website matches all sub-domains? and ENABLE it & save.

Now you have a working wordpress multisite with sudomains

Thanks for the great guide !

Didn't know for that option to match all subs under one site, will use it in future for sure!

One thing, I guess that setup can't be used with domain mapping plugin to hook standalone new domains under multisite, right?
