Moving mydomain.com but not mx record issue

Mailsetup problem with postfix (I guess) Virtualmin setup on ubuntu. I have DNS provided from external machine pointing at external IP. Setup like this: DNS mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com and mail.mydomain.com (MX record) all pointing at external IP. Everything working fine. Now mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com are put in Another machine with Another IP. DNS is now pointing at new IP but I would like to keep mail at old IP and server so I don´t change DNS for mail.mydomain.com. Now I can´t send mail. Any ideas? All help is welcome

We need more details.

Please tell us the actual domain names in question so we can do tests. What IP address do the old and new server have?

Also explain "can't send mail". What exactly happens, from where do you send mail to where using addresses, what errors do you get in the client, what gets logged in /var/log/mail.log on the server?

You might have to reconfigure your email client to connect to "mail.scandoor.com" (which still points to the old IP), since you moved the hostname "scandoor.com" to the new IP.

Uhm, sorry, I have no experience with Windows Live Mail, never used it.

But it should not be that hard I suppose? If you're operating a mail server of your own, I should think that you should be able to find the right menu option in your email client to change the hostname for incoming and outgoing email. ;)

You appear to be getting some errors in your email logs, that suggests that there may be a configuration problem in your Postfix config.

Could you paste in the output of the command postconf -n? That will show all the non-default options in your Postfix config.

Also, what Ubuntu version are you using?

And lastly, what what is the output of this command:

dpkg -l 'postfix'

Hmm, there's an error in your email logs, but I don't see that particular line within your Postfix config.

I'm curious what happens if you restart Postfix, which you can do with this command:

/etc/init.d/postfix restart

After running that command, do you see any errors in the mail log?

If not, are you then able to receive email?

Howdy,

What is the output of the command "hostname"?

It looks like there's a problem with where Postfix is trying to deliver your emails, it may be related to the hostname being used.

Also, can you paste in the contents of your /etc/resolve.conf file?

Hostname is aserver1

Thank you for your efforts

Did you initially install the system using the Virtualmin installer script? Or did you use some manual method? The former is highly recommended.

Please post the output of hostname -f

Also, as I said two times, please always put shell output in code tags, i.e. put
before the whole shell block and
after it.

Sorry I didn´t understand. I used the script but then I moved one domain to another server on another IP adress

Maybe it is not such a good idea to have hostname and server name as the same name? How do I change it or should I reistall the hwole thing all together?

Okay if you used the script, I'm a bit surprised about the Postfix errors in your first post. Anyway, maybe they're not an issue.

You'd want an externally resolvable FQDN (fully qualified domain name) for your system. And yep you're right, the server hostname itself should not be a Virtualmin controlled domain.

It might be easier to reinstall the system, can't really judge without seeing your system for myself. It'd be too much guesswork. I could offer you to do a Skype+screensharing session if you'd like to try and fix things before you reinstall. If it's something simple, I can do this for free. And if you need extended support, we can agree on a compensation.

Thanks. I tried this first: Deleted the virtual server aserver1.dk Now the default server for outside adress is nygammaltkok.se Changed the line to  mydestination = aserver1.dk, aserver1, localhost in main.cf Restarted postfix

I can now recieve and send mail with nygammaltkok.se but not scandoor.com Logfile shows
