Unable to configure email client

Hi,

I am totally new to virtualmin and I am not sure how to configure the email client. As Instructed in the previous forums I tried to configure the email client (ThunderBird), But it is prompting password again and again. I have cross checked and verified that the username and password I provided is correct. Also I was able to login to the webmail using the same password and username.

I use the settings as follows :

Username : Username@domain.com
Password : Mypassword

Then I take manual configuration

Incoming :

IMAP

ServerHostname : mail.domain.com
Port : 143

SSL : STATTTLS

Authentication : Normal password

Outgoing :

SMTP            mail.domain.com        25      None           Normal password

When I Re-test it shows : The following settings were found by probing the given server When I click Done It shows : Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong ?

But I can assure that the password and username is correct. While checking the mail log I see the following :

Jun  3 06:21:05 li319-189 postfix/smtpd[2348]: warning: 123.456.67.89: hostname 123.456.78.89.static-xxx.xxx.xx.in verification failed: Name or service not known

Could any one please help me to resolve the Issue?

Howdy,

Hmm, are you able to login to a webmail client such as Usermin on port 20000, or RoundCube, as that particular user?

Or do you receive an error when trying to login?

If you can login, are you able to send an email?

Just searching through once again with the same issue....once again.

I can receive, send and receive through webmail, turn off firewalls, try every "trick" posted online.....and can never ever get the smtp function to work.

Why are the stmp settings almost impossible to use, but yet everything else takes a few minutes to setup. Shouldn't smtp have some form of working default to get someone going.

Also tried different ports and nothing is hitting any logs. All my other emails for other server and services work fine, so I know the ports are not blocked.

Are there any options to even pay someone to set this up. I can't waste 2 days configuring something that should have worked once the email account was created.

@MichaelS: What exactly is the problem? What error messages, how did you configure your client?

Sorry for the bump, but I am having the same problem as well. Couldn't find any mail-related logs either, but I did install certificates in my mail server if that helps.

I had the same problem as well. I discovered, a "solution" quite by accident. When Thunderbird finishes its search for a configuration, it shows the configuration and there's a "Manual config" button in the bottom left corner. If you click this, you can enter whatever you want into the various fields. Also, when you click the button, it changes to "Advance config". I recommend you NOT leave anything with autodetect. One you've entered the configuration you want, you can retest and/or click "Done", but I don't do this. Just click the "Advanced config" button and it will save and created the account as you've configured it.
