Mysql service stopped but sites working

Hi,

I have a weird scenario, my sites are running fine but when I try to manage databases I get this:

"MySQL is not running on your system - database list could not be retrieved" I also get this: "/usr/bin/mysqlshow: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket 'var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)"

I noticed mysql service is stopped when I go to system information. If I try to start it through Virtualmin, the page refresh but nothing happens..

do you know what it may be?
