If I understand WHCMS and Virtualmin's relationship properly, Virtualmin will do the back end stuff right?
WHCMS will allow customers to create/purchase thier own domains and pass that info to virtualmin to be created on the server.
My question is, is it possible to have the billing (WHCMS) on a separate server so in case the web server goes down, I am still able to run billing etc?
I am still trying to get my head around how all this works as I am looking at going into this type of business in the not too distant future.
Thanks for any of your input. If you have a long explanation and want to email it to me let me know.
Thanks for your time!
Howdy,
WHMCS doesn't need to be running on your primary Virtualmin server.
However, it makes your life easier if it's on a server running Virtualmin -- as you need a web server, and if it has Virtualmin (even Virtualmin GPL), you can use the Install Scripts to install and maintain WHMCS.
You can configure WHMCS to use a remote Virtualmin server though for configuring your domains.
Not running WHMCS on your primary web server is considered safer, as it would be more difficult to someone to get ahold of your customer information.
