does the current webmin file manager allow for zipping multiple files and directories? I can't seem to find this feature. If i select multiple files and click save, it just downloads the last file I selected. It doesn't prompt for a zip/tgz compression action like it does when you save a folder/dir.
Let me know if this is possible or not.
No, the file manager doesn't have that feature. But the Virtualmin pro version got a different file manager with that feature (I believe).
I would never have updated webmin if id known that the zip/unzip function was going to be removed! What a disappointment! Any chance we can be alerted to what other useful functions will be removed in future upgrades?
Howdy,
The Java-based filemanager in Webmin is actually the same between the Pro and GPL versions. I attempted to test that out to see about a zip feature, but I apparently don't have a browser with a working version of Java :-)
What you can get in Virtualmin pro is the eXtplorer AJAX-based filemanager as an Install Script. However, you can also install and set that up that manually here:

thanks guys for this info. I might try and install this ajax one...but Is vm/wm going to think about officially implementing this ajax filemanager in future core releases globally for every virtual server? I know cpanel has this zip capability and it's very easy to use in their filemanager. Might be something to incorporate at some point.
I wanted to do this and came here after Googling. I found another thread that explained how to do it.
Once you select all the files and hit download, the dialog box asks which method of compression you want to use, tar.gz, zip, etc. Once you select it, your compressed file downloads in that format. It works Great!
MTUser2012, thanks :) Confirming this works
All, if not working ensure a pop up blocker is not interfering with the Virtualmin popup window. To download multiple files one option is to select a folder then click on "Save" button. That will compress the folder and all its content. BTW in the latest Webmin version the button is called "Save".
