Installing Joomla?

Hi all,

I was hoping to install Joomla on one of my domains, but I notice my PHP is reporting it's PHP Version 5.1.6.

I saw that a few others had discussed some hoop-jumpin' they did to install the latest greatest thing, but I don't necessarily need all that.

If I simply want to install Joomla, how do I (and is it safe to) upgrade PHP? Is it a better idea to simply use an older version of Joomla? If so, which?

Howdy,

If you're using CentOS 5, which comes with PHP 5.1.6 -- there's instructions for using a newer PHP version from the Bleed repository here:
