I just installed Virtualmin for the first time and and trying to find my away around and setup my first domains. It seems that whichever tutorial I follow on the virtualmin website, none of them bear any relevance to what I see on my screen!
Take this one for instance http://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/tutorial/how-to-create-virtual-s...
It begins, "First, choose the domain you for which you would like to add the Virtual Server Alias. You can do that by selecting the domain name from the drop-down box on the top-left."
I have no drop-down box anywhere and certainly not on the top-left. I tried to follow another instruction regarding setting up my name-servers and had to give up there too, since my UI is completely different.
Can anyone tell me what's going on please?
Howdy,
In the tutorial you mentioned -- creating an alias implies that there is an existing Virtual Server (ie, a domain) setup on your server.
If there aren't any Virtual Servers setup on your server, there wouldn't be a drop-down list yet on the top-left.
If you haven't created any Virtual Servers yet, that'd be the place to start -- setup a domain by clicking "Create Virtual Server". Once you go through the process of setting it up, a drop-down list of all the domains on your server will appear on the top-left of Virtualmin.

Thanks Eric. Actually, I think I was looking at Webmin rather than Virtualmin. I still don't know the difference between them. When I clicked on a link called Virtualmin in the top left, it all became clear.
@snowweb: Suggestion for your next support requests in the forum: Before posting subjects with a reproachful amount of question marks and formulations, make sure you're not actually just doing things wrong. ;P
Despite any amount of tutorials that exist, a web hosting control panel is not like your every day software, where you can expect to be taken by the hand for anything you might want to do.
To answer your implicit question. "Webmin" is the basic underlying server management software, and "Virtualmin" is a (quite voluminous) plugin for that.
Hopefully you feel better now that you've got that off your little chest Locutus :-)
