You could try logging into Usermin on your server -- and send an email from it. If the DNS and Email features are enabled, the email would be delivered locally on your new server, and not to your existing live server.
If things don't work properly, you can review the mail logs (in /var/log/maillog or /var/log/mail.log) for any errors if things aren't working properly.
cool....i logged in to an email account via usermin and sent an email to a gmail account and it went through no prob then sent one to the account i was logged in to and it was delivered locally on my new server....looks like i'm ok there!
