Unable to install Virtualmin -> Unable to locate Usermin package

Hi, folks

I am unable to install Virtualmin GPL in an Ubuntu 10.10 running 'in the cloud'. It has been runnning perfectly OK until last friday night, but it went amok due to a packages update (the hour I did it!) that broke my sites.

Every time I rebuid the system and I try to reinstall Webmin, Virtualmin and Usermin, I am unable to install Virtualmin in any way: Fresh install with or without Webmin and/or Usermin... No way.

Last time, I read again the Virtualmin FAQ and I started from a fresh install and then I did:

# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade
# wget http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh
# sh install.sh

But, when I run the install script, I got this "Unable to locate usermin package" and I cannot get ayn further.

The root/ virtualmin-install.log says:

Thanks a lot :)

Howdy,

Well, whenever you run that install script, one of the things it mentions is the distributions and versions that Virtualmin is supported on... and unfortunately, Ubuntu 10.10 isn't one of the ones Virtualmin supports :-)

The Virtualmin installer only supports the Ubuntu LTS releases, such as version 10.04. Those are supported for a longer time, and are more suited for servers.

My recommendation would be to use Ubuntu 10.04 as your base OS, rather than 10.10. With that, it should install without any trouble!

Alternatively, you could do a manual installation, but that's rather complex and takes some time to get up and running :-) However, you can find instructions for that here:
