Virtualmin Restore Problem

Hi,

Having a problem with Virtualmin 3.78.gpl restore. I created a "Single Archive File" scheduled backup (which runs successfully). I backup all "Features and Settings" with the exception of Servers Home Directory and Webpages.

However, when I attempt to restore this backup to another Virtualmin installation (also running 3.78gpl), I eventually receive the following message:

Re-creating mail and FTP users ..
Restore failed : Missing user line to modify

Mail and FTP users is exactly what I was hoping to restore...I've created some new users and wanted to update my backup server with the new stuff from the production server.

Not sure where to go for a solution, as the error message isn't particularly descriptive.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Howdy,

Well, that should work... that said, I do suspect it'd solve your problem to switch to the "One archive per domain" format, and try the same thing again.

That won't take you any longer to import, as you can have Virtualmin import an entire directory of backups by pointing it to the dir containing all the archive files.

It does appear to work, but I can't keep my original scheme of not backing up the server's home directory and web pages, as that option (or rather its omission) prevents me from doing a "new format" one-file per server backup.

Any idea why the home directory and web pages is a requirement for new format backups, and if there is a way around it?

I also decided to try the old-style one archive per server backup...but it complains that:

The option to transfer each server after it is backed up can only be used with new-format backups

Seems like I'm caught coming or going. An error on one archive, an incompatible option on the new style one archive/server, and an inability to transfer the archives as completed in the old-style one-archive/server backup!

I guess the lesser of the evils is holding transfer of the backups until all are done. Are there any other drawbacks between the "old style" and the "new format" backups I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Heh, that's quite a predicament you have there :-)

I'm not aware of any significant drawbacks... though, I'd certainly encourage you to give it a test run to make sure it works as expected.

I agree though, I'd probably just hold onto the backups until they're done if you're able to.
