Where log for Automatic Reply Email?

Hi, some months ago i used automatic reply option for my email, under: Edil Mail & FTP-USER-> Mail forwarding settings -> send automatic reply. Now i need to recover which mails have been sent, is there some log file where to check? Thanks

Howdy,

You can see a log of all emails that have been send by looking in either /var/log/maillog or /var/log/mail.log.

There isn't a log specific to auto-replies, but any reply that is sent would be listed in one of those mail logs.

Well, that all depends on how long your logs are setup to hang around.

However, by default, most distributions don't keep email logs around for much more than a week or two, so chances are that's long gone...

Sorry, I'm not aware of anything that would store email logs for emails that were delivered 6 months ago. The information is generally purged every few weeks.

It wouldn't be in an IMAP sent folder, since email auto-replies aren't sent via IMAP. The virtualmin-autoreply directory contains files with a list of the auto-reply text... but not the logs of what's been sent. The logs are in the email logs that have since been rotated out :-)

Folks that require what you're after would need to either setup the log rotation to keep logs for an extended period of time, or would setup some form of email archiving.

However, that all needs to be done in advance... I don't know of any way to get email logs from 6 months in the past when your system hasn't been setup to store that information for that length of time. Sorry :-)
