A few questions

Hi guys, I installed the Virtualmin GPL the other day and so far have been very impressed with it, I do however have a few questions.

  1. Having a few issues with mailservers, webmail works perfectly but when I try to set up an email account using mail.mydomain.com it refuses to connect, any ideas? (i've set up an A record for mail.mydomain.com that points to the server IP)

  2. Are there any different themes available for Virtualmin?

  3. Is there a way to globally change the hostname of your server within Virtualmin?

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work.

Howdy,

Having a few issues with mailservers, webmail works perfectly but when I try to set up an email account using mail.mydomain.com it refuses to connect, any ideas?

Does your ISP allow connections to port 25? A lot don't, and that could potentially be the issue you're seeing. That is, email might be working just fine, but your ISP is preventing your desktop from being able to directly access the email port on your server.

Are there any different themes available for Virtualmin?

None that enable all the Virtualmin features, unfortunately.

Is there a way to globally change the hostname of your server within Virtualmin?

You can change some of that in Virtualmin, though there's a few places you'd need to manually adjust as well.

To change your hostname, you'd want to:

  1. Go into Webmin -> Networking -> Network Configuration -> Hostname and DNS Client, and set your new hostname there.

  2. Verify that /etc/hosts contains your updated hostname

  3. Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf, and edit your hostname on the mydestination line. Then restart Postfix using: /etc/init.d/postfix restart

At that point, you should be in good shape :-)
