Hi I have virtualmin GPL running on a debian 5.4 64bit server, I have my main website setup and running fine, and ive been using the site now for a few weeks..
yesterday I decided to create a new virtual server for a 2nd website/forum which I want to host, the new site is accessable on the local network everything seems fine, Im even able to visit both sites via the url/domain names.
Now my original site is still accessable on the internet (my friends can visit the site OK and everything works as it should)
but with my new site, some users cant connect at all, and the ones that can, just get a blank white screen with some text in it.. like login etc. But all the graphics work is not there.
can anyone please help me find out, what Ive done wrong for thing to happen.
both domains have there A records set to my IP and the needed MX records for emails...
So I'm a little confused on why other users on the net cant view the site properly.
Thanks in advance Husskii
Howdy,
Well, my only guess is that you may want to make sure you aren't having any DNS problems. Try running your domain through intodns.com and see what their reports say.
Beyond that, I suspect what we'd need is for you to let us know what website you're having problems with, and we can poke around with it a bit ourselves. You can always go back later, edit your post, and mask out the domain name if that's a concern :-)

This is exactly what's been happening to me too, and to tell you the truth I've never had this problem with virtualmin before. I've set up maybe a fifteen or eighteen boxes with virtualmin at different companies.
I've had nothing but DNS nightmares with my latest install even though I swear I've done nothing differently... I'm getting "glue" and other errors. For instance, if I have the following exact record on both my nameservers:
domain.com. IN NS ns2.domain.com.
domain.com. IN NS ns1.domain.com.
domain.com. IN A xx.xxx.xxx.xx
ns1.domain.com. IN A xx.xxx.xxx.xx
ns2.domain.com. IN A yy.yyy.yy.yyy
mail.domain.com. IN A xx.xxx.xxx.xx
domain.com. IN MX 5 domain.com.
domain.com. IN MX 10 mail.domain.com.
I'll get glue errors and reports like
The MX records that are not the same at all your nameservers:
mail.domain.com with ip(s): yy.yyy.yyy.yy reported only by: yy.yyy.yyy.yy
domain.com with ip(s): yy.yyy.yyy.yy reported only by: yy.yyy.yyy.yy
domain.com with ip(s): xx.xxx.xxx.xx reported only by: xx.xxx.xxx.xx
mail.domain.com with ip(s): xx.xxx.xxx.xx reported only by: xx.xxx.xxx.xx
It seems each name server is reporting it's own IP for each of these and the ns records... even though I've set up the last two boxes EXACTLY the same way I've done it a dozen times before. I don't know if virtualmin changed or what, but I've been struggling for over a week with it. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong, but I've pulled out much hair trying to figure out what.
Is there an option for pay for support per incident?
Hi andreychek
Thanks for replying to my post.. I have checked my domain names with intodns.com and found that my seedmachines.com domain had a few dns errors, and I thought maybe that was because I had been using freedns.org. but the funny thing is that the seedmachines site was and is still working OK. But to be safe I have transferred all my record back to the registrar... Now I still get a few blue caution returns but no actual red errors, so I need to look into that a bit more...
The site Im having problems with, is the site I'm testing for the forum. the domain I'm currently using is a free domain from co.cc, and intodns.com wont check the dns records.. The error returned was
Can't get nameservers at parent server!
I only check domains not subdomains!
that domain or subdomain I guess is
hostmeweb.co.cc
and my forum isso am not sure how I would check for dns errors...
Just to add, Ive used a free domain from co.cc before , for testing purposes and I didn't have a problem.
Thanks...
Sure... yeah, it should certainly work, and I'll poke around to see if anything obvious shows up.
So just to be clear -- the address you're having problems with is "hostmeweb.co.cc"?
When I go there, I see a phpBB site with various graphics and such.
The "co.cc" parent domain has 4 nameservers associated with it... and I verified with each that a valid IP address for your "hostmeweb" site came back.
So, at the moment, it actually seems to be working okay... are you (and/or your users) still seeing issues with it?

hi make thanks for your help :)
yes the problem is hostmeweb, I have my self and 2 friends testing the website.. so when I setup, I have 2 mates 1 in Scotland and 1 in Australia, my mate in Scotland says that when he tries connect, the page times out. And my mate in Australia he is testing the website from 2 locations, one from behind a vpn connection and one directly from his home connection. he say's he can reach it, but he only gets a while page with some text, like login etc...
As for my self I see the page as it should be. before I login its the original default theme and after I login I get the full graphic theme, dark blue with green text...
so your also able to reach the page with no errors, on your end... then maybe they might be having the problem, but I'm just surprised that 2people (and the ones I have testing it lol) are the ones that are having problems...
I know for a fact that with the hostmeweb domain I have a lot of CNAME and A records which could be deleted as there not really needed, do you think they could be the cause of the problem..
*******************EDIT**********************
I have just had another 6 more people test the website and they have all said that it works just fine, page loads with no errors and the graphics are as they should be...
I think the 2 that tested it first might be having a problem on there end...
Thanks heaps for helping :)
now I just need to get seedmachines.com dns sorted, the page is working fine I guess but when I run the test at intodns.com it seems to show a blue exclamation mark on
Category Test name parent - Domain NS records
NS - NS records from your nameservers - Glue for NS records
SOA -SOA record
MX -MX Records
WWW -WWW A Record
are these OK to have, I know that I have a whois guard, could that be the cause.
Well, since your DNS is hosted elsewhere, and not on your own server, your ability to control certain things is going to be limited :-)
However, anything that's not "red" is typically not a big problem. Nothing there stands out as an issue that would prevent your site from working.
So if you're experiencing problems with your site, let us know what trouble you're seeing exactly, and we can dig into that.

i can see hostmeweb.co.cc with no problem. it is a blue phpBB forum with one post by mr. Host. Im in The Netherlands
Thank Guys Much appreciated for the help....
All is in working order now :)
