Last night my server slipped into a kernel panic. When I finally rebooted this morning everything appeared well, for the most part. All of the sites on the shared interface came back up, however, sites that use a dedicated IP and virtual interface timed out. It took about 3 minutes of head scratching until I realized that the virtual interfaces were missing! Gone, poof, non-existent.
I've rebooted the server several times prior and the virtual interfaces have always stayed in their place, so my question is why would a kernel panic cause them (and nothing else) to just fly the coop? I'm assuming that if there was a power out they would probably go missing again.
Are they supposed to disappear on an unclean shutdown?

Well, in theory, it shouldn't :-)
My guess is that something else went awry along the way; perhaps even before your server crash, though I'm not sure what or when.
If you go into Webmin -> Networking -> Network Configuration -> Network Interfaces, do you see any of your interfaces listed in "Activated at Boot"?
