DaviCal

Has anyone gotten Davical working, or better yet, is there an official Virtualmin module?

I actually looks relatively easy to install, but the rpm failed a dependency for perl-YAML, and there was no yum package for it. I didn't want to interfere with any of the default virtualmin packages without checking here first.

Thanks all

Howdy,

No, there isn't any Virtualmin-specific support for that app, but you should certainly be able to get it up and running.

It looks like folks using Fedora and RHEL/CentOS have been able to install it -- check out their wiki docs here:

http://wiki.davical.org/w/RPM/Red_Hat

They explain where you may be able to get those dependencies. -Eric

Hi, yes, I'd found that page. Unfortunately, when I get down to the centOS section, I fail at step 1 because yum says no package is available for perl-YAML. I managed to find what CLAIMED to be an RPM source for CentOS, but, the actual package URL turned out to be a 404 error... sigh.

I honestly don't know all that much about yum - I assume that multiple repositories can be searched for packages by default, but I don't know what the big repositories are, and I would assume Virtualmin already came with the big yum repositories set up.

SOOoooo, this command yum install perl-YAML

fails. And all the rpm packages - even the one listed named .noarch still are packaged in RedHat repositories... are those safe to use?

Thanks for your input, Tony

Hrm, did you by chance follow the link to the DAG repository they offered in there?

While we can't officially support third party repo's (as the packages will often clash with what's provided here), I do imagine this particular package will work fine for you.

Going to the DAG repository and searching for "perl-yaml" nets this page:

http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/perl-YAML/

Which should allow you to download what you need.

I'd download the "el4" package if you have CentOS 4.x, and "el5" is you have CentOS 5.x.

I always recommend the EPEL repository for CentOS non-core packages (it's what all of our Virtualmin repo packages are based on, for starters, but it also tends to follow a bit more closely to the Red Hat packaging guidelines, and is generally maintained by the same folks who maintain Fedora, CentOS, and RHEL).

perl-YAML exists in that repo for CentOS 4 and 5:

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/4/i386/repoview/perl-YAML.html

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/i386/repoview/perl-YAML.html

Okay, I generally used the resources you directed me to plus a couple of others I found, plus scrounged around for the missing dependencies and, three hours later, not counting screwing around time, the server's up.

The instructions are a good page or two long with comments, so, ummm... here's a link to "How I Got DAViCal Working Under a Vanilla CentOS VirtualMin Install"

Have fun, future reader...
