Transitioning from HyperVM to Webmin

Hi,

I have a server running HyperVM, using OpenVZ templates. Due to the recent news of vulnerabilities and the possible ceasing of lxadmin's operations, I'd like to explore other Control Panel options for my OpenVZ ostemplates.

Will Webmin / Virtualmin? be a smooth transition? Running CentOS 5

If you can provide us some examples of these files, we can see about migrating your ostemplates into Cloudmin (Webmin/Virtualmin would be comparable to LXAdmin/Kloxo). I've never worked with HyperVM, but I imagine there's probably a reasonable path from it to Cloudmin.

these are standard OpenVZ templates: http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated

I read on the old Webmin page there was a module for OpenVZ...

We're integrating OpenVZ into Cloudmin this weekend. We're hoping to roll the beta release with OpenVZ support on Monday.

If there is an OpenVZ module for Webmin, it is third party, and I'm unfamiliar with it (could be awesome, though, I dunno!). But, Jamie is working on Cloudmin support for it, which should be very nice...it'll be just like any other virtualization type in Cloudmin, which provides some cool capabilities, particularly if you also have Virtualmin (or to a lesser degree just Webmin) in the instance, as it will allow interesting data to come out of the instance and into Cloudmin for graphing and such, as well as allowing migration of domains from one instance to another, even across different virtualization types.

So, HyperVM just uses standard OpenVZ templates? That's good. It'll make it much easier to support HyperVM migrations.

Any idea how long before we know anything on openvz?

I do have one VPS running Virtualmin Pro already. Will Cloudmin just see it and integrate? The rest are running cPanel or lxadmin.

Thank you

No release date, but hopefully soon! ;-)

Cloudmin is a Webmin plugin -- so that'll install nice and easily with your current setup.

We're doing a release of Virtualmin with LXAdmin/Kloxo migration support tonight or tomorrow, and then we'll be focused on getting the next Cloudmin release with OpenVZ support out the door. I don't know exactly how far off it is, but Jamie's pretty fast...we just got distracted by YAPC (a tradition; we always go to YAPC!).

I think I need to start in on the migration docs ASAP, so we don't get inundated with questions from the large influx of new users coming from LXAdmin. If only I can get caught up on email and tickets and forums! ;-)

That openvz module is very simplistic and probably nothing like Cloudmin. It won't do multiservers either that I know of.

I doesn't really do anything we'd need it to do. Just for FYI
