What registrar is the most compatible w/Virtualmin

Where are the registrar tools in vmin? is it a package that i need to enable?

What do you or the client get control over when using the domain name registrar from within Vmin?

Also, what registrar is everyone using? (compatible with Vmin only please)

Thanks, Max

This should get you going in the right direction:

http://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/id,domain_registration_with_virt...

I'm haven't really used that module, so I can't answer your other questions, but the docs should get you started :-)

If you have a favorite registrar, feel free to mention it. Adding support requires a few things to converge: Some users want it (the more the better), the registrar provides a sane and free to use API, and the registrar is helpful when we run into problems.

Oh, also worth noting, if you use one of the billing apps that supports Virtualmin, your registrar options increase in number quite a bit, I think. Both AWBS and WHMCS support domain registrations via a number of registrars, I think. Things that deal with billing and money changing hands are not really our focus, so the registration plugin is somewhat limited.

Seems like register.com (the only one that shows up in Vmin) is really expensive. Something like 35/year. Seems like they all want you to be a reseller and that is a stacked deck IMO.

I have always used godaddy wich is 9.99/year. I just hate having my clients see that 7.99 hosting add when they go to get their doamin there.

So the Vmin interface is just an easy place to manage the reg info and, create the hosting account at the same time?

The whole registrar food chain is pretty diabolical.

It's not the only one in Virtualmin. gandi.net and distribute.it are also available. Jamie's been working with a new registrar lately...I'm not sure when it will be complete, and I don't recall the name. It's a Canada-based provider I'd never heard of.

Yes, you never have to leave the interface to deal with domains. (Or, at least, as much as the registrars API allows.)

Agreed.
