You haven't told us the error. We can't possibly guess what the problem is, without information. ;-)
Also there is a troubleshooting guide in the docs that might be of assistance:

It'll at least tell you where to find the logs that we need to see information from, for us to be able to help.
Your OS and version are also very useful to know.

You were working on it. The error I get from the sending mail client is:
<b>There was an error sending your message: unable to add recipient [harold@]: Invalid response code received from server</b> or My server just does not receive mail directed to other accounts
Are you seeing any errors in the error log?
If the mail server isn't starting (or is having any other problem for that matter), it's probably putting some sort of message in either /var/log/maillog or /var/log/mail.log.
