How to change virus scan to ClamAV on Debian 4.0?

How can I change virus scan from clamscan to ClamAV on a Debian 4.0 system under Virtualmin?

On my v-server clamscan eats up CPU very much so I have to change something. I already did a search in the forum but didn't find the right answer for Debian.

I don't know either how to stop clamscan from eating CPU.

yeah the clamscan eats up your cpu lol
there are some posts about it in this forum though.

You can go to the Virtualmin tab - Email Messages - Spam and Virus Scanning
There you can switch to clamdscan which will behave much better :)

Also make sure all clamscan processes are killed first.

Well, that's the thing... ants eat sugary things, pigs roll in mud, cows go "moo", and clamscan eats CPU. That's just it's lot in life :-)

So, the server-based clamdscan (note the 'd' in there) should help take a load off.

You can enable that by going into Email Messages -> Spam and Virus Scanning, and choosing "Server scanner (clamdscan)" rather than what it's probably currently set to, "Standalone scanner (clamscan)".

Sorry for my bad English since it's not my mother tongue and I didn't learn it at school well.

Hey Karl,

Glad to hear it works!

And your English is fine, I was just making a silly comment regarding clamscan. "Eating up CPU" is an excellent way of describing the problem here :-)

Have a good one!
