filesystem backup

Performing backup of / to /root .. tar: /root: Cannot open: Is a directory tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now .. backup failed!

What's the problem? Can I have this tar file in root directory?

Did you try to give the file a name? as the backup of a directory needs to write it to a file..

it would then be /root/filename.tar
