Hey Stefan,

What OS and version are you installing on?

Hi Joe,

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 now ...
I tried 8.04 also, but went back to 7.10 to see if it worked better...

Neither are supported, but 8.04 will be in another day or two.

See here:

http://www.virtualmin.com/os-support.html

We will very likely never support non-LTS versions of Ubuntu (and 8.04 was just released a few days ago, it takes a little while to add support for a new OS!).

Joe,
I just run this: <b>sudo apt-get update</b>
and I saw these lines in the output:

[code:1]Err http://software.virtualmin.com virtualmin/dapper/main Packages 404 not found

Failed to fetch http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/ubuntu/dists/virtualmin-dapper/main/b... 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.[/code:1]

Looks like something missing on your server, or ?

I'm thinking to go back and install 8.04 again, but have not decided yet... Do you think it would be okay ?

Also, Ubuntu is not currently supported at all by the GPL install script (we try to gently guide folks into choosing the best OS for hosting...Ubuntu historically is inferior to Debian 4.0 on servers...I'll find out soon whether that remains true of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS).

Anyway, as I mentioned the Virtualmin Professional installer will support 8.04 in a couple of days. If it doesn't suck for server usage, I'll begin work on the installer for Virtualmin GPL on Ubuntu 8.04. That'll take another couple of days.

Thank's for your reply (I did send you an email also just now ;-)

Can I go ahead and install 8.04 and install the free version of Virtualmin
and run it until you are done with the installer and then &quot;upgrade&quot; ?

I had 7.10 running with it until yesterday, but then I did a fresh 8.04
installation, bought the pro version and got into &quot;problem&quot; ...

I need to get my server up again asap ...

Joe,
I'm going back to Ubuntu 7.10 and the free version of Virtualmin
since I had it up and running before...

This time I got an error setting up Sendmail, maybe you can help ?

[code:1]Rebuild Sendmail Configuration

Failed to build configuration :
m4:/etc/mail/sendmail.mc:18: ERROR: end of file in string[/code:1]

Any idea why I get this and how to fix it so I can rebuild the configuration ?

/Stefan
