Love Virtualmin - Goodbye Plesk!

Just wanted to thank you guys for making virtualmin and supporting Ubuntu. I've been a Plesk user for years and have been desperate to find another CP that supports Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and that had all the features I needed and was stable. I found your site a few days ago and very much like what I saw.

I installed the virtualmin GPL on an OpenVZ VPS and a PIII dedi to test and so far things are going fine after a number of setup issues mostly from certain paks not being installed and just learning my way around.

Wow so many options and features available in virtualmin that I still am exploring them. The icons really add a nice feel and make using it every day a lot more enjoyable.

I'll probably purchase a license within the next few weeks. Am looking forward to the Ubuntu script release and comparing the GPL to the PRO version.

Thanks again for supporting Ubuntu Server...

Thanks for the kind words. We're happy to have you as a user, regardless of whether you're using GPL or Professional.

The Virtualmin GPL installer will be available for Ubuntu within a few days of release of the next LTS release (8.04, I believe). Professional already includes support for it, but we try to keep things as simple as possible for the GPL versions--because maintaining the OS support is quite costly, we're only offering CentOS and Debian 4.0. But once a newer version of Ubuntu comes out, we expect demand to be higher (right now, Debian 4.0 is the best Debian-based server OS...it just has a better package selection, and the benefits of Ubuntu aren't really visible on a server).

Hi Joe, I placed an order for my first virtualmin PRO license on Friday via PayPal...can you confirm you received it? I haven't heard anything back yet. Just pretty eager to get it installed...

Thanks....

Doug

Hi Joe, your welcome...I can wait till April for 8.04 and that gives me some time to get more familiar with virtualmin. It's nice that virtualmin supports a new OS version release so soon after it comes out.

I've tried CentOS but much prefer apt-get over rpm and the many dependency problems I ran into.

I like Ubuntu over Debian as I had a lot of trouble with installations and reproducing the same results from server to server. Ubuntu is very easy to setup and maintain and that keeps things a lot more predictable with my particular setup. And it's been so reliable and trouble free that I'll be staying with it for the long term so hope you continue to support it.

Thanks...

We'll definitely continue to support it. It's our fourth most popular OS (after CentOS, Fedora, and Debian, in that order), and I expect it will grow in popularity when 8.04 is released, since it'll resolve all of the issues found in 6.06 (some of the old packages make it a bit uncomfortable, at times--some weird limitations and bugs, for example in the default Dovecot and mod_fcgid packages, among other things).

Oh, wasn't aware of the Ubuntu bugs as I keep my installations minimal due to Plesk issues. It's wonderful news to hear that you will keep supporting Ubuntu. I think I've found the perfect CP then!

I appreciate the prompt and thoughtful replies also...
