This website is deprecated, and remains online only for historic access to old issues and docs for historic versions of Virtualmin. It has been unmaintained for several years, and should not be relied on for up-to-date information. Please visit www.virtualmin.com instead.
It would be quite helpful to have easy access to network query tools like dig, whois, traceroute, resolve, check port. I believe some control panel already have this kind of functionality.
There is a Webmin module out there already that does this pretty well, written by Tim Niemueller (find it here: http://www.niemueller.de/webmin/modules/nettools/ ). We might implement something simpler and a bit more integrated into Virtualmin in the future, though.
I can definitely see the value in having some DNS validation tools available, in particular. Given the number of issues that come up that are DNS related (either incorrect glue records, incorrect IP in the A records, longer propagation time than folks expect, etc.), it'd be useful to have an automated way to be sure DNS is behaving itself before looking to other areas.
