collectinfo.pl ?

collectinfo.pl runs on 60% cpu. I see it quite a lot, is this normal? Should this run quite that often?

It runs every five minutes. It shouldn't be very intrusive on system resources, as there's quite aggressive caching of data (particularly in the security updates module, which could take as long as a minute to run in its entirety).

Anyway, it should only run for a few seconds each time it starts, so I doubt it's causing any performance trouble. You can certainly adjust it to run less frequently, if you don't care about the data in the System Information page being up to date. In the Webmin Scheduled Cron Jobs module, find the one that runs collectinfo.pl and set it to run hourly, or on whatever schedule you prefer.

ah...lifes...good

Interesting observation.

I checked my CPU usage using the "top" command when I run "System Information".

89% %CPU by miniserv.pl
* %CPU: The task's share of the CPU time since the last screen update, expressed as a percentage of total CPU time per processor.

I have 2 Xeon processors on the server.

A question for Joe:

On running "System Information", I see miniserv.pl from the "top" listing of processes. A few seconds later I see miniserv.pl[defunct>.

Should I be worried that the miniserv.pl process became defunct?

Thanks.
