Gentoo Support

Hello,

We use the GPL version now on our servers but as we are gonna build out our own network, We want all our servers to run the Pro version as its easyer to maintain and users will need less support.

I know Webmin/Usermin/Virtualmin GPL work fine on Gentoo how is the support/compability on Gentoo for the Pro version?

I hope i get a positive answer from a dev :)

Kind Regards, Stijn Petry

Hey Devin,

I'm knee deep in Debian at the moment, and expect it to roll out in another week or so. After that is FreeBSD. Gentoo will probably be the one after FreeBSD--the other possibilities are Slackware (which I can't really do much with, since it doesn't have packages) and Solaris. I'll have to review the voting results to know which one is going to make enough sales to justify prioritizing it. Now that the clear leaders of Fedora and CentOS, as well as the "easy" ones are out of the way (easy because RHEL, SUSE and Mandriva are based on RPM packages, which I'm most familiar with), I'm going in order of most popular. Debian and FreeBSD users outnumber Gentoo users by a large margin, but we do have enough Gentoo users to make it into the "first tier" set of platforms, so it will happen.

All of the "to be supported" platforms will be supported before the Early Adopter period ends--so you'll be able to get the discounted pricing on whatever your preferred platform is. I know everyone wants there favorite platform yesterday, if not sooner, but doing it right takes a lot of time...and I do want to do it right. I suspect you'll enjoy using the software more, because of the extra effort, and I can only hope that it doesn't tick you off too much having to wait for me to wrap my head around (in Gentoo's case) portage and the various quirks of the system.

In short, don't worry about getting the discount--you'll get your chance to get the discounted price for your platform.

Hope this helps with your plans.
