Proftpd

I am seeing hundreds or possibly thousands of these messages daily. I am not sure whose IP this is. Any ideas why?

speedy (24.52.139.24[[24.52.139.24]]) - PAM(setcred): System error speedy (24.52.139.24[[24.52.139.24]]) - PAM(close_session): System error

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you, Pete

This option is not what you think. FTP access is always enabled for any user that has a shell that is listed in /etc/shells. The Virtual FTP option is only for situations where you need to allow anonymous access to a specific directory based on the domain name.

You almost certainly do not need this option to be enabled.

And...the name of this option will change soon, because it confuses everyone. ;-)

Hey Pete,

This looks like ProFTPd isn't configured correctly in PAM. Is it installed from my packages or some other source? If mine, tell me what platform, and I'll see if I can reproduce it. There were some problems with ProFTPd on CentOS/RHEL early on, due to different locations and library names...but I believe they've all been corrected. (So be sure your system is updated with all the latest available versions.)

It is from your platform, and it is installed on FC4 64 bit.

Thanks,
