pasv passive ftp mode question.

Sorry for all the questions but it's the only way I'll learn.

I notice my suse 10.0 does not support pasv ftp, every ftp program for windows starts out with pasv mode on, and unless you can find where to turn it off, your stuck, because it connects, does the LIST command and then just sits there. Is there a reason that pasv mode is turned off either in virtualmins proftpd or in suse10.0? Ad if so, why?

Hey Adam,

This is probably firewall related. PASV mode needs open high ports (1024:65535), which I don't think the SUSE firewall opens by default--even if you tell it to open up for FTP service, it only opens 21, I think.

As soon as I figure out how to modify the firewall on SUSE from a script (it's ordinarily controlled by yast, which unfortunately does not use the iptables standard save file), configuration of these kinds of things will be added to the installation process.

I'm pretty sure PASV is enabled in the ProFTPd package we provide, once high ports are open.
