I have just installed an Ubuntu-based Cloudmin KVM system. Unfortunately guest systems are not coming up, their Boot Messages showing:

I tried two different images, both showing similar boot error messages.

Going to graphical interface is showing CLI prompt (which is an indicator there is an OS there), but it never accepts the correct passwords. Is there requirement for password length and complexity as I set very simply one like just 'test'?

I am reverting back to CentOS as Ubuntu 15 is probably is too fresh to run Cloudmin KVM system on. So I am not interested in following this bug report further, however just so you know this happened on Ubuntu 15.x and not Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Howdy -- just to clarify, was Ubuntu 15.x the host, or the guest?

Gotcha... yeah we haven't done any testing on anything but the Ubuntu LTS releases.

Ubuntu 14.04 is supported, and 16.04 will be supported when it comes out in April next year, but none of the releases in between will be supported as a host.

CentOS 7, Debian 8, and Ubuntu 14.04 should all work well though.

This may be due to changes in the version of KVM used by Ubuntu 15. Which version of KVM / QEMU do you have installed there?

Jamie, Ubuntu 15.10 comes with qemu-kvm version 2.4.

Ubuntu 14.04 comes with version 2.0.

It is odd that this prevents booting of the VM though - the message is really just a warning that KVM had to detect the image type automatically.

When you use the graphical console, do you see the Linux login prompt, or something else?

I've reverted back to CentOS-based Cloudmin, so didn't test thoroughly, but reading my fist post above I remembered that login prompt was there, but didn't accept passwords:

So I believe you have to install Ubuntu 15.10 based Cloudmin to get his confirmed.

Ok, it sounds like we will need to test out Cloudmin on an Ubuntu 15 host system. But for now, I would recommend sticking to supported distros.
