Firstly my email inbox for curtis.cgdproperty was empty but no errors.
Thunderbird said new mail (Same in Virtualmin) but did not show inbox. On my Android phone it had an error when I tried looking for new mail. It does have the history though so I can still see old emails.
I could not fix it to show my old emails and new emails so I renamed the account to curtis-old.cgdproperty and created a new account with previous name curtis.cgdproperty
Thunderbird had an error and I checked the log and it said permission denied. I looked in SSH and found that the folder was cgd-old.cgdproperty so I chowned to correct username (group was the same as the master username cgdproperty)
It now works but I would be interested in seeing my old emails in Thunderbird. I could keep them separate and try and get inbox loading for curtis-old.cgdproperty.
I assume this is a bug with username permission changing?

So what did you rename here exactly - a whole domain, or just one mail user?

Just one mail user as the old account inbox disappeared.

Ok, thanks .. and which folder did you have to chown exactly?

The inbox and control folders in /var/dovecot-virtualmin
As for some reason it chose that location on Virtualmin install. Another question, is it possible to move to the Maildir in /home/user
What happens when I restore a backup? Will it break email? In case I have also been backing up dovecot-virtualmin too.

Ok, I found a Virtualmin bug that causes those dovecot control files to not be renamed when they should - I will fix this in the next release. They have to be under /var/dovecot-virtualmin so that they aren't subject to the same disk quotas as the /home directory.
