Hello, I have a problem with Virtualmin. I installed a server exact as in the virtualmin instructions. The problem is that Mysql = version 5.1.6.7. When i do an update in Virtualmin, I get the message that this is the most recent version what is not the case. I need version MySQL version 5.5. Also from the command line in CentOs 6.4 it is not possible to upgrade. I get errrors like: Error: mysql55-libs conflicts with mysql-libs-5.1.67-1.el6_3.x86_64 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
I have 2 questions: 1. If I do a clean install again. I need to install mysql and php before installing virtualmin or ? 2. In case that virtualmin is installed, how can one upgrade to mysql 5.5 and php 5.3?
Thanks so much in advance for the appriciated help.
Kind regards
Allard Smol

Howdy -- the software versions you're seeing are the ones included with your Linux distribution.
CentOS 6 comes with PHP 5.3.3 and 5.1.67.
We always recommend using the software versions included with your distro. If you need a different software version, we'd typically recommend looking for a distro that includes that.
However, there are folks who have installed software from third parties.
My suggestion would be to ask in the forums to get some ideas of what has worked for other folks if you can't use a distribution that provides your desired software version.

Thank you very much for the super fast reply!
Can you advise me which Linux distributions support mysql 5.5 standard? Maybe Debian 6.0 Squeeze?
Before I had Plesk and it was the same problem. It came also with 5.1.6.7. I could install it there however with 3rd party repros. But unfortunatly that doesnt seem to work in my case here with centos 6.4 in combination with virtualmin.
If I do a clean install, and I upgrade mysql tot 5.5 trough 3rd party repros. Will Virtualmin keep this updated mysql or will it overwrite it during installation?
Thanks so much in advance!
Kind regards

Well, Virtualmin isn't choosing any of the software that you're seeing -- it's just telling you about what updates are available when running a "yum update".
Normally though a yum update won't ever downgrade software... so if you upgraded to MySQL 5.5, there's no reason it should ever go back to 5.1.
Debian 6 has MySQL 5.1 on it.
The only distro I'm aware of that's out now, contains MySQL 5.5, and is supported by Virtualmin is Ubuntu 12.04.
Debian 7, which should be out shortly (within a few weeks/months), have MySQL 5.5 as well.
If you have any other questions, we'd encourage you to ask those in the forums... it looks like you're using Virtualmin GPL there, and the support area here is for Virtualmin Pro users. We monitor the forums, along with lots of wonderful folks in the community. Thanks!
