Help with migration questions

I forgot I could use this ticket system with Virtualmin Pro :)

Any answers to the questions I asked on the forums would be helpful: https://www.virtualmin.com/node/21703

I also want to change my versions of httpd, php and mysql to versions from source what is the best way to do that during this migration? Is it better to install from rpm, do the data migrations, make sure all works and then do my source builds?

Thanks!

Howdy -- there are instructions on how to migrate from one server to another here:

http://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/system/migrate

Regarding your questions in the forums -- it's no problem to move from a 32 bit to 64 bit system.

As far as Webmin already being installed -- if you perform your installation using the install.sh script (which you can get at virtualmin.com/serial), that should handle making sure the proper Webmin version is on there.

And lastly --

I also want to change my versions of httpd, php and mysql to versions from source what is the best way to do that during this migration? Is it better to install from rpm, do the data migrations, make sure all works and then do my source builds?

Well, we'd highly recommend against that -- we'd suggest using the packages available to your distribution.

Would it be an option to use a newer Linux distribution? You mentioned using CentOS 5, could you use CentOS 6 instead?

We don't have a recommended way of using alternate software versions though, with the possible exception of PHP.

However, before you install an alternate PHP version -- note that CentOS 5.6 and above include PHP 5.3 in the packages named "php53-". You can install it in place of your "php-" packages.

Thanks for the info!

It's a Virtuozzo VPS not xen so it's CentOS 5.8

If it was a Xen VM then I would have gone with a CentOS 6.2 install.

It's free for me for 1 core/2GBram/40GB Storage so I can't complain :P

OK I am getting this error when trying to restore.

"Warning - the following features were enabled in one or more of the domains in the backup, but are not enabled on this system : Analytics Tracking

This backup cannot be restored without breaking the configuration of this system."

I went and added the Virtualmin Analytics Webmin module on the destination and tried the restore again and got the same error.

What are next steps to get past this error?

Take a peek in System Settings -> Features and Plugins, and make sure that the Analytics module is enabled. If it's not, you might still get the error you're seeing.

Nevermind :)

I needed to enable that in Virtualmin > Features and Plugins. Looks like it's restoring now.

Thanks for making an awesome product!!!
