Usermin slow responses

I'm sure there is an article regarding this somewhere on the forum. I did search but was unable to locate it, so I'm asking here. Most of our users are using Squirrelmail (which seems to respond rather quickly), but are starting to have new users use Usermin since the interface if much more current and I have people complaining about the Squirrelmail interface. The problem is that Usermin seems to respond very slowly, especially with larger mail boxes. Since this is an IMAP client and some accounts can have close to 1GB in storage (mostly split into folders), so I understand the some of the delays, but I also see the delays on smaller new mailboxes.

Is there a set of steps to follow to make sure the configuration is tweaked for performance?

Howdy -- I'll let Jamie speak to whether there's a way to tweak the performance you're seeing -- but in the meantime, you might consider exploring RoundCube rather than SquirrelMail. RoundCube has a modern AJAX interface, which users tend to like. And it's available as an Install Script in both Virtualmin Pro and GPL.

The default config for Usermin as supplied by Virtualmin should work fine..

What actions in Usermin are you finding slow? Also, if you run top on the system while slow actions are running, do you see it using up a lot of CPU time?

I checked TOP and everything appears fine, but when I load the same email account in UserMin compared to SquirelMail, the UserMin takes at least 4-5 times longer to load. It's really bad on larger mailboxes (obviously). It amazing the difference in performance between the twp accessing the same email account. I'll check out RoundCube to see if that's better. I'd stick with SqrlMl, but customers complain that it's clunky. Users! Geez.

So you don't see any process using a lot of CPU with top when the mailbox is loafing?

How large is a large mailbox?

I haven't tested it out thoroughly, other than timing the load and screen-to-screen changes. We're investigating the RoundCube option since that is considerably faster (loading and using) than either of the other two options. We'll use that moving forward. Thanks.
