I have both
Allow sub-servers not under this domain
and
Allow sub-servers under other users' domains
marked NO under Admin Option -- Edit Owner Limits, forcing all sub-servers to be under the top level domain name.
Yet when going to VirtualMin -- Server Config -- Clone Virtual Server I can enter anything for the cloned server domain name. The new server appears as a child to the top level server for mgmt purposes, but looks like it has the new arbitrary domain name as I typed it in.
I have VirtualMin v3.85 GPL ...
Did I mis-understand the settings or is this a bug?
I do see the proper behavior when choosing Create Virtual Server ... there it displays the Sub-Server panel and enforces the subdomain naming logic.

Thanks for pointing this out - this is a Virtualmin bug, in that it doesn't check for domain name validity when doing a clone in the same way as it does for a new domain. This will be fixed in Virtualmin 3.89.
