Hey Jamie,
I've started doing restores onto the new server, in preparation for switching over...and found the restored UIDs are a mess.
I used all defaults during the restore (all features, nothing changed in any of the dropdown sections). At the end of it, I have user joe with all of his files owned by svntest, svntest files are owned by jcameron, and jcameron's files are all owned by spamtest. I'm not even sure where to start guessing about how this occurred. UIDs are being remapped (which is the default), but I wouldn't think Virtualmin should do so randomly, as fun and exciting as that might be.
You can find the backup that I used on virtualmin.com in /disk1/virtualmin-full/20110713
If you need to see it on the restored to system, I'll leave it alone for a bit. I think you can get the password from Cloudmin on srv1. If not, ping me and I'll forward it to you. The system is 108.60.199.107 (www.cloud.virtualmin.com, though I haven't actually made the cloud zone resolve yet).

Turns out the restore was crashing before it got a chance to fix permissions, due to an error copying additional mail folders for restored users! I fixed that, re-did the restore and all is OK now..
