Issues with FTP User backup

I'm using virtualmin gpl 3.83 , centos 5.5 and am not sure if it is a bug..

* domain email disabled
* proFTPd server disabled

Im in a situation where i do backups of a virtual server, but have domain email and proftp server disabled.

I have some ftp users for the domain that i create for database access use from php scripts.

However, after a test restore, it seems everything is ok apart from the one problem that the ftp users are not restored. I'm not sure if it was that they are not backed up in the first place or if its that they aren't restored from the file.. I do believe it is a symptom of one or the other, or both of the domain email and ftp servers being disabled.

The backup i am using is a scheduled local backup to \backup. However, i have seen the same issue occur on ssh backup. I am using the one file per server method, I also think that it occurred with the other backup formats as well.

I am worried about this as I need the ftp users to be restored and backed up even without the domain email and proftp services disabled..

Is this a bug or error, or am I doing something totally wrong.. ?

Much thanks

That sounds like a bug, as mailboxes should get backed up in this situation..

However, I did a test with a similar domain and mailboxes were saved OK.

Could you paste contents of the backup email report here? Or run the backup manually from within Virtualmin, and paste the output?

Hi, thanks for the reply, its not the mailboxes that I was havinig problems with, it was the "FTP user accounts" that weren't being restored.

This is the log for when "mail for domain" is turned off. (and also proftp) under features and plugins. proftp ftp server is stopped. (I just leave it on the server, but have it stopped in case i ever need it although not sure if this makes any difference)

Backup is set to back up all features. However, it doesn't backup Mail and FTP users in this scenario, where "mail for domain" is turned off. (not sure if proftp has to be turned off as well for this to occur)

I have no mail on the server. (If I needed mail, then the mail related services would have been turned on, and mail would have been saved for the domain).. However, mail isnt my key issue at hand..

My main issue is that the FTP user accounts aren't saved in this scenario when mail is tuned off. It is the ftp user accounts that are important to me in this case.

Note, if i reenable Mail for domain under plugins, then it will show the FTP and Mail being backed up. However, I prefer to have it disabled as I don't use it.

Ok, I see now .. I didn't realize you had the "Mail for domain" feature disabled globally.

As as work-around, try enabling that on the Features and Plugins page, but leaving it disabled for each domain. The next Virtualmin release (3.85) will fix this ..
