So I upgraded to debian 6 and ran into 1 issue with it with VM Pro....
Setting up virtualmin-base (1.0-30) ...
Error: Failed to query Postfix config command to get the current value of parameter mailbox_command:

dpkg: error processing virtualmin-base (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I eventually had to remove it because I couldn't get other packages to upgrade, I hope this doesn't break VM now.

OH I have sendmail installed as the mail server not postfix that its complaining about. I set sendmail as the default mail server from the get go.
You may not have noticed but we're actually much closer now to your ideal of having no dependence on Postfix. ;-)
virtualmin-base no longer has a postfix dependency. But, I will see about making the postinstall script not do Postfix-y things, if postfix is not installed.
