Hello,
I seem to have PHP 5.2.6 running on my new Virtualmin pro installation. How can I upgrade to a newer version 5.2.17 for instance) ?

Howdy -- our recommendation is typically to stick with the version of PHP provided by your distribution, unless you need to get at some of the features available in the newer PHP version.
The version 5.2.6 version that Debian ships is the most current version available for Debian 5, and is patched for any known security issues. So it's not as old as it looks :-)
If you're still looking to use a newer PHP version -- Virtualmin unfortunately doesn't offer any newer Debian packages. However, there are repositories out there that you may be able to use. For example, I've heard a lot of good reports about the dotdeb repository. Since those aren't provided by or tested by Virtualmin, we won't be able to help you install or maintain them... but they should, in theory, work for you :-)

OK, I see. And in the future, how are upgrades handle : is it a new Virtualmin version for Debian or should I look directly on the Debian Website ?

When you ran the install.sh script, it added a Virtualmin repository to your system. That repository holds all the Webmin and Virtualmin packages that come out (which includes all new Virtualmin Pro versions).
Anytime a new software version comes out, whether it was provided by Debian, or by Virtualmin, it would show up in the System Information screen in the Packages Updates section.
Or, you can manually pull down all the updates by running "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" on the command line.
Does that answer your question?

Thank you. It answers my question. I am running this server to run Joomla websites and they require PHP 5.2.+, so it seems that 5.2.6 is enough after all, so long as the security measures are applied.

Yup, the PHP version provided by Debian should do what you're after, and be plenty secure.
