I understand why automatic reverse dns (rdns) isn't used for ipv4 as we most often share the same ip address. With IPv6 this sharing no longer happens. Virtualmin already supports creating a new ipv6 address for each virtual host we create. What would be ideal is if it could update the RDNS to reflect the virtual server. i.e. Create virtual server example.com, setup with shared ipv4 and dedicated ipv6, setup rdns for ipv6 address back to example.com (maybe template option so rdns could come back to the mail.example.com or www.example.com depending on user preference).
I don't assume everyone using ipv6 will use a new ipv6 address per virtual host, so it would need to be configurable if it's going to be a shared ipv6 address, and then not touch rdns.
Thanks

That's a reasonable request .. I will add this to my TODO list. It will require that the IPv6 reverse zone be hosted on the Virtualmin system though.

Thanks Jamie I believe most people won't have an issue with getting the RDNS delegated to their server. Given that you are now generally allocated a whole "subnet" of addresses, hosting providers probably don't want to be manually updating RDNS everytime a client requests it. With the ipv4, it almost never needed changing once set. I've just recently gotten IPv6 to a server, and my provider was more than happy to delegate the RDNS to me as well.

I have just finished implementing this, for inclusion in Virtualmin 3.84.
