Hi
I had an issue where Dovecot was setup to not allow plaintext authentication.
I logged into the server as root, edit /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf, and made sure I had a line like this: disable_plaintext_auth = no and then restarted Dovecot, as instructed from a previous support request.
Now I still can't send or receive mail as the password is not being recognised. Please help.
Thanks.

What shows up in your email log, /var/log/mail.log, whenever you try to send or receive email?
Also, can you log into a webmail client such as Usermin, or does that fail as well?

Where do I find the mail logs through the control panel?
When I try to send and receive mail I get... There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mailserver.webuyanycarbristol.com', Server: 'mailserver.webuyanycarbristol.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Authentication failed.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I had exactly the same 2 problems before on another VPS account which you were able to fix but I can no longer find the information in My Issues.

Your most recent request was in regards to plaintext auth being disabled... it's a straight forward fix in the dovecot.conf file.
Your request (and the solution) is available here:

Yes that's correct and since the fix I can't send or receive mail as the password is being rejected which I know to be correct. If I privately send you access to the VPS server can you take a look at the Virtualmin set up please? Thanks

Hi,
Sorry to be a pain but can you please help. I've had the same issues with another VPS through daily.co.uk and I need to rectify the Email problems as my client is hassling me to set up his Email.
Thanks

Please remember that the Support area here, as well as the remote login service -- those are services we provide for Virtualmin Pro and Cloudmin Pro customers... users of the free GPL product are welcome to put support requests in the forums :-)
We do accept bug reports from everyone though! We like to get bugs fixed.
The issues we had run into with your system previously, those were issues with older versions of the install.sh script, related to setting up permissions for Dovecot to run properly. Make sure that whenever you do a Virtualmin installation, that you're using the most recent copy of the install.sh script from the virtualmin.com site.
As far as the issue you're running into now -- if you log into your server as root, take a look in /var/log/mail.log -- what error(s) is it that you're seeing in there whenever you try to send an email?
