http://www.dspace.org/ is a large internationally recognized open source project for online content repositories, such as academic papers, digital museums, libraries, etc.
I have one client that is interested in something like this -- an academic papers and transcripts repository. This happens to be one of the ones I came across, and it's credentials look good.

What languague is dspace written in? I couldn't see any docs on this (or the install process) on that site.
If it is PHP then adding support is easy. Other languages, not so easy ..

Not yet sure. Looking at the site http://www.dspace.org/quickstart-guide/Quickstart-Guide.html, they link to a download on JumpBox, so I am downloading a copy, which may tell me. Otherwise, I will look around a little more.
Jumpbox download link is : http://www.jumpbox.com/post-download?application=dspace&download_url=htt...
Same page has a manual here : http://www.dspace.org/1_6_0Documentation/DSpace-Manual.pdf
Installation items on the wiki can be found here: http://wiki.dspace.org/confluence/label/DSPACE/installation
OK, main "installation" page here: http://wiki.dspace.org/confluence/display/DSPACE/Installation
Looks a bit complicated (unfortunately for me!).
watching the video, the lady says it can be installed in less than a day.
that doesn't sound like some simple installable script as a forum.
It also needs tomcat (must be installed from source) and ant.

Oh, tomcat .. that means Java. Sadly that is more complex to support, so it isn't like to appear in Virtualmin any time soon.

Agreed. Something I can install myself if I want the extra hassle. I'll keep searching for other similar items.
