Would love to see Virtualmin support install and deployment of tomcat and webapps based in java.

I second, third, forth, etc. that!!! This is a major omission from what is otherwise a great virtual server management platform.

Tomcat is the pre-eminent web container for Java & Grails, and Java/Grails is the pre-eminent serious enterprise development platform. Come on guys wake up!

I'm just starting my second cup of tea. I should be awake any moment now.

On the Java question...we just don't get very many folks asking for it (compared to, say, PHP, and to a much lesser degree Rails and Django). I definitely think things are getting interesting at least with the regard to the runtime with so many dynamic languages running on the JVM, but in most shared hosting environments nobody is using Java. It's just such a large and demanding stack that it takes a dedicated machine (or at least a relatively big virtual machine) to deploy.

I do think there's probably some interesting areas where we could do some work. And, we will very likely be adding a number of Java components to the Cloudmin stack in the not too distant future, since that's where a large percentage of cloud infrastructure work is happening (Hadoop, in particular).

Personally, I'd like to see some more Perl stuff (Catalyst, for example) make it into the product, but nobodies asking for that, either, and we do what customers want. ;-)

I'm curious if folks would be interested in seeing a new product in this area, and if so, what the price point would be (assuming it does the things folks need it to do).

We're reaching saturation point on what we three can do, given the launch of Cloudmin and the continuing expansion of the Virtualmin customer base, so if we add major new capabilities, we also need to add new developer resources (i.e. hire additional people). So, I want to make sure we can pay for those resources.

You mean how much I would pay for such a module/product ? I would pay $100 for it.... Tomcat is no easy thing to deal with.
