whenever a client messes up a domain they then get redirected to another client's domain. i am getting confused emails fr0om my clients. can this be turned off where it either shows a generic 404 OR jsut simply fails(i would prefer the latter)?

You can't make it 404, but you can create a generic error page domain and make that the default for requests that don't match any other domain (ie. via IP, or https when the domain doesn't have SSL enabled).
