Using Backups To Migrate Systems

I am using last Cloudmin version and I want migrate a backed up VM machine using Using "Backups To Migrate Systems" illustrated here https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/cloudmin/vm/backup On Cloudmin interface i see:

Restoring 1 systems from /mnt/nas-backup/samba3/backupVirtualMachine on Cloudmin master .. Finding systems to restore .. .. found 1 systems Working out backup sources .. .. found 1 usable sources

Re-creating missing system pgsql7.kvm.mydoman.com .. Creating virtual system with KVM ..

If I log on to mi host with htop a see a process : dd if=/dev/zero of=/kvm/.img bs=32768 that create a huge file now of abot 300Gb when my real virtual machine img file is 45 Gb

Why ?

I don't stop i thing that this will fill all my HD space

My linux machine is:

Linux nas1-2 4.9.0-8-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.110-3+deb9u4 (2018-08-21) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Hi at about 360Gb I manually kill the dd process and the restore process on Cloudmin is go to end. Is this normal ? THanks Alberto

I get the same problem! File grows indefinitely

How large is the disk image of the VM being backed up?

The backed up image is 3.8 Gb, and I killed the process when the new VM file was about 350Gb! It's KVM too

Is the VM using a LVM volume group for disk images, or a regular file?

I am not sure anymore, and as I have no access to the old machine (that I am trying to restore), and neither to the old Cloudmin (the cloudmin server crashed - HW failure - a few hours after the old machine) so I can';t tell you for sure, but maybe you can know through the content of the .serv and .disks files?BTW there are 2 other files: xxxx.xx.gz and xxxx.xx.gz1 but the latter one is zero byte.

Ok, looks like it's not using LVM based on that .serv file.

Try adding the line kvm_disksize= 13958643712 to the .serv file and see if that helps.
