Virtualmin is reporting that my license is expired, but I normally renew in February. Any reason it would have expired early?

Howdy -- I've contacted Joe about this, we're looking into what the issue here is.
Actually, it expired late. ;-)
You last renewed this license in February 2015, but we extended old licenses for free for anywhere from 3-9 months (this one happened to fall into the quite long extension category, so you've gotten most of this year for free). But, if you're in the habit of renewing in February and want to keep doing that, I'll extend this license another couple months, and you can buy again at the usual time of year.

In February 2017, you can just buy a new license of whatever size you need, and apply that license to your server using the "virtualmin change-license" command. That new license will recur automatically until canceled, either monthly or annually.
