Letsencrypt not working with Nginx and Wordpress

Using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Letsencrypt appears to be installed and active, but Wordpress sites continue to work with http:// and if I edit to make their default https:// then they return: This site can’t be reached

domain.name took too long to respond.

That seems unrelated to the SSL certificate in use. Does this happen for all browsers? And were you able to access the https:// URL before enabling the Let's Encrypt cert?

I've given up on nginx as trying to work out how to make everything work together is beyond me, but I know how to do it with Apache. Now I've just got to get rid of Nginx. I can't uninstall using apt-get purge nginx just tells me that nginx isn't on the system. I can't disable it in Virtuamin because I get an error message: Failed to save enabled features : The Suexec command on your system is configured to only run scripts under /home, but the Virtualmin virtual server home directory is /var/www. CGI and PHP scripts run as domain owners will not be executed. Hoping I don't have to start from scratch again.

Try just re-installing whatever package contains the suexec command.
