Clamav Anitvirus option to run on home directory - config

Hello,

I might be a little miss informed but here goes, So we have Clamav server / client running with virtualmin which actually scan emails only.
Can i request a function or feature option to enable scanning of home directory for virus using clamav, and capability to play with options which you can pass along with notification to an email.. ? similar to how bandwidth monitor option creates a cron, this option could also manage it like that?

And i know this can be done manually, by setting a cron job.

I understand that antivirus scan loads the system and hence we could limit this option in the package or plan or virtualmin settings.. USP is, none of the panel offer this as a capability.. ?

What do you guys think of this idea?

Howdy -- ClamAV itself may not be able to detect much interesting on the filesystem, as it's largely designed for finding email-based viruses.

However, there's a similar project that looks for web-based malware, we'll look into the feasibility of using something like that for scanning files on the server.

may i ask which web-based malware are you refereeing to?

There is a tool that uses the ClamAV engine called Linux malware detect, available here:

https://www.rfxn.com/projects/linux-malware-detect/

Also, there are third party ClamAV signatures... I don't have much experience with them at the moment, but it's possible that one or more of those may be worth a look.

thanks for this info, so what should we do with feature request? do you want to track it as open?

Yeah I'll leave this as open... it might be some time before we could incorporate this request, but we'll certainly keep it in mind!
