Hi there,
When I try to create a virtual server when signed into Virtualmin as a reseller (I am the master admin, but I'm testing adding a domain as a reseller) I get this message:
Failed to create virtual server : Unlimited server quota cannot be selected, as you have a reseller quota limit of 100 GB.
There is nothing set to unlimited when I'm trying to create the virtual server, and there is nothing unlimited in the plan and server templates -- certainly nothing to do with disk space, which is what I'm assuming this refers to.
Any idea why this error is being generated?
Craig

What disk quota did you enter for the domain on the creation form? That error will happen if it is over 100 GB (or unlimited)

Hi Jamie,
I entered 10 GB, which was the default of the plan I was using.
However, on thinking about it, it occurs to me that it's not practical to impose limits on a reseller, so I gave my resellers unlimited resources to get away from this problem. It has been a few hours since I dealt with all of this, but my thinking is that it seems Virtualmin will not allow a reseller to assign (as opposed to actually use) a greater total of disk space or bandwidth than the total limit imposed on him -- i.e., oversell. So if I limit a reseller to, let's say, 100 GB of disk space and the reseller tries to set up 11 accounts limited to 10 GB each, he will not be able to create the 11th, even though he may actually be using only 1 MB of disk space (to pick a random number less than 100 GB).
So I set the disk space and bandwidth to unlimited for resellers and was able to create virtual servers as a reseller. However, in the master admin list of resellers there is now this red notice in the "Total quota" column that reads, "Unlimited for some domains" for all resellers. Doesn't seem to affect anything though, so I'm not really worried about it at this point.
Clearly I'll keep an eye on actual disk usage server-wide, but I know that it's often difficult to program in reality what one envisions in one's mind. :)

Right, Virtualmin can only control how much quota resellers can assign to their domains rather than how much they can use, because Linux's quota system has no way to enforce a combined usage limit across multiple groups.

I hear ya. This issue is solved as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for your input.
